6:21 pm - San Diego Comic Con 2009 - Thursday
Since I was able to get a ticket for Thursday's San Diego Comic Con, here are a listing of the panels I'm going to try to attend:

12:00-1:00 Spotlight on Bryan Lee O'Malley Comic-Con special guest Bryan Lee O'Malley (winner of the Doug Wright, Joe Shuster, and Harvey Awards) talks with legendary comics scholar Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics, Zot!) about Bryan's groundbreaking slice-of-life graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim. From its genesis to the production of the upcoming film version, O'Malley speaks frankly about where Scott Pilgrim came from and where the series is going from here. With a fan Q&A to close the discussion, this is the must attend event of Comic-Con 2009! Room 5AB

3:00-4:00 Robot Chicken with Titan Maximum Seth Green (co-creator, Robot Chicken and Titan Maximum), Matthew Senreich (co-creator, Robot Chicken and Titan Maximum), Tom Root (head writer, Robot Chicken/co-creator, Titan Maximum) and Doug Goldstein (head writer, Robot Chicken) with Chris McKay, Breckin Meyer, Kevin Shinick, Mike Fasolo, and Dan Milano discuss the popular Adult Swim series Robot Chicken. They will also discuss the upcoming new stop-motion animated series Titan Maximum, slated to premiere on Adult Swim this fall. Join this meet-up of show creators, writers and voice actors for a Q&A, moderated by Keith Crofford, vice president of Adult Swim production. Room 6A

5:00-6:00 Showtime: Dexter Calling all Dexter fans! If you're a Dexter fanatic and can't wait for the new season, you don't want to miss this killer panel! Moderator Ralph Garman (KROQ Entertainment Reporter) presides over a revealing interview and Q&A session with the stars and executive producers of Dexter. Plus, get an exclusive first look at clips from the new season! Featured panelists include series star/executive producer Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Julie Benz (Rita), Jennifer Carpenter (Deb), and executive producers John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Clyde Phillips, and Melissa Rosenberg. The new season premieres September 27 at 9:00 PM EST/PST only on Showtime! Ballroom 20

6:30-7:30 Unlocking Arkham: Forensic Psychiatry and Batman's Rogues' Gallery— Arkham Asylum holds some of Gotham
City's most disturbed criminals. But do they truly belong there? From the vantage point of a forensic psychiatrist utilizing real-world psychiatric diagnostic criteria, panelists explore the mental disorders of the Dark Knight's Rogues' Gallery, with in-depth analyses of The Joker, Two-Face, Riddler, The Ventriloquist, Mad Hatter, and Mr. Zsasz, among others. Learn as three psychiatrists explain the meaning of such terms as "psychotic," "not guilty by reason of insanity," and "psychopathy." Bring your questions, and join the fun as experts unlock Arkham Asylum and possibly set free some of its "inmates"! Panelists include H. Eric Bender, M.D., University of California, Los Angeles; Praveen Kambam, M.D., University Hospitals/Case Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio; and Vasilis K. Pozios, M.D., University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Room 4

That's the goal at least. Dunno if I will be able to, since these tend to fill up quickly.

*Need to still buy tickets.

That's pretty much it in terms of the upcomming concerts / events  I can think about. Not a huge amount compared to some years. Oh, Amanda Palmer is playing at the Troubadour, but not sure if I want to go see her play live or not. Debating it right now.

Thur June 25th
Amanda Palmer
Tickets: $20 adv    Doors @ 7pm

I still would like to plan some kind of vacation amidst all of this -- What exactly, I have no idea. Maybe pick a week and just go someplace. The only month that would be bad would be in July, since that's when Comic Con and Anime Expo reside.. So who knows. Something to start thinking about. Maybe August?

But I think I want to do something, just need to plan start planning it out. Otherwise, I'm going to end up burnt out again with all this vacation time I never took. Any suggestions?

6:41 pm - I've been playing mirror's edge...
On the PC..

Yeah, it's something like that. The 3rd person perspective with all the running and jumping from tall heights and whatnot really mess with your head. I ended up getting motion sick after an hour or so of play.

12:25 pm - Birthday!
Well, today I turned 34. God I'm old. Instead of just sitting around and complaining that I've got nothing to do, I decided to go ahead and try to set up a 'Indoor Track Racing' thing in Thousand Oaks today -- http://www.mb2raceway.com/thousand_oaks/home.html So that should be exciting. Figured I'd just get a few people together and just try to do that, since it's something different. Normally on my Birthday, since no one would set anything up, I'd end up doing nothing at all.. So rather than have that happen, I figure I'd take the initiative and set something up. If you didn't get an invite, don't think it's because I wasn't thinking of you -- Rather, I realize these days that budgets are tight and it's not easy to afford something as expensive as this potentially could be, or it's because I know you're friggin busy and I didn't want you to feel obligated to go.

Anyway, I have that set up for around 3pm today. There's also a lucha-va-voom event in Ventura that I might end up going to -- Midget wrestling and burlesque dancers! All depends on how much it ends up costing -- Looking at ticketmaster, it's coming out to around $50 per ticket - which is expensive. I dunno, I need to think about it since today will already be expensive and I'll need to see what all is going on afterwards. Just playing it all by ear at this point to be honest.

Yesterday, I took the day off from work and met up with my friend Cyndee - We went to the CSI Exhibit in downtown LA and then went to the Garment district looking for a bag to hold my escrima armor. The exhibit itself was pretty interesting, but more geared to spurring young kids into getting excited about science. All in all, I had a fun time. After dropping off Cyndee, I went and visited my friend Phil up in Porter Ranch for dinner before finally heading home.

Right now, I'm just burning videos of my nephew so I can free up my Flip Camera for the racing today. Hopefully I can get it all done - -However, I can't seem to find the octopus mount that I bought at Circuit City a long time ago -- Bummer.

Anyway, that's it for now. Hopefully this year will be a whole lot better than last year, which started off on rocky footing. But only I can control how I respond to new situations. I'm going to try to get myself out there more this year and put myself in awkward situations as opposed to just hiding away and securing myself in my own 'fortress of solitude.'

Later!

- Rob

Most recent pictures of me -- Taken right before the Combichrist show by my friend Cyndee. Need to get more recent pics made soon.

So now you have an idea of where I'm at. I really want to try to get smaller around the face.

So I guess I'm going to try to go to gym tonight, even though my legs are KILLING me.

Which picture do you think looks the best?

7:34 pm - Kettlebells

So yesterday, I went ahead and tried out a new exercise routine -- Kettlebells. "What's a kettlebell?" you ask? It's pretty much a 16 Kg (32) iron canon ball with a metal handle hanging off of it. Basically, it's a series of exercises made famous by Russians and appears to be one of the 'next hot things'. I figured that it would be a good thing to try out, considering that even though it's a single weight, it's more or less a full body workout. While reading through the local paper, they had an article on how they have a local group that meets in the next town over.. So while I went ahead and purchased the kettlebells, I figured that it would be a good chance to get some first-hand exposure and guidance. In order to ensure that I don't develop bad habits, I went yesterday.

God, I'm pretty sore today. I feel it in my shoulders, my gluttes, my inner thighs.. Just pretty much all over. Here's a video of what it looks like -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwme8rkzetg&feature=related

So yeah, my body is pretty sore right now. I'm right now trying to get the motivation to go to the gym to get some swimming, since I know on Friday I'm going to be going to Das Bunker.. However, I may just end up waiting till tomorrow to go instead.

I'm also going to try to do the following:

It's called 'Yoga for Regular Guys'.. Mostly based on this, which I found pretty inspirational.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suTPns5cy_Q

So.. My overall goal is to eventually drop down around 50 Pounds. I don't know when this will happen.. It may not happen today, it may not happen tomorrow, but it will happen someday. I just need to be dedicated to this goal and to keep striving to get better, and just hope my body keeps up with me.

7:53 am - Mono no Aware
It looks like Mono no Aware is playing at Bunker tonight at Midnight. In the past, I'd be all "Fuck yeah, let's rock that shit!" But now that I have a Martial Arts class at 7:30 am on Saturday, I'm just... Eh? I dunno. I'd like to go. Just not sure if I will or not.

6:24 pm - I don't even know if 6 people read my LJ...

The first six people to respond to this post will get something made by me. It will be about or tailored to those six who respond first.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make.
- What I create will be just for you.
- It'll be done this year.
- You have no clue what it's going to be. It may be a mix tape. It may be fic, or a poem. I may draw or paint something. I might bake you something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure!
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to put this in your journal as well, if you expect me to do something for you!

The only other thing I'll probably need is your address.

6:40 pm - What I've been doing these past two weeks on vacation:
In an effort to make sure I didn't waste these two weeks, I sat down and made a list of all the things I need to get done:

To Do:

- Jujitsu Revisions
- Install Software on Computer
- Format and Install XP on Asus EEE
   - Nlite
   - iMediaMan
- Work on Resume
- Clean
  - Computer Room
  - Bedroom
  - Garage
- Vaccum
  - Computer Room
  - Bedroom
- Organize DVD's
- Put Books Away
- Wire Stero System

- Bake Oatmeal Cookies
- Make Backup Copy of Judo VHS tapes
- Make copy of my Nephew's home movies
- Recycle

- Fiddle around with the Wacom Tablet

So there's a few things that I didn't get around to accomplishing, and I still need to do some minor things to be totally complete with others, but all in all, I feel like I accomplished quite a bit - A lot more than if I hadn't taken the time to sit down and write things out.

Now I just need to finish everything else and enjoy these last two days before I go back to work *sigh*.

9:33 pm - Beginning Writer's Workshop: Lesson 5
Galumphing
322

3 = Wedding Ring
2 = Science Teacher
2 = Grocery Store

Mr. Stevens, a science teacher at Richard Wright Middle School in Virginia County, walked casually through the 'soup and condaments' isle, pushing a small shopping cart with a broken right frontwheel. He struggled to keep it following a set path, along the perpendicular lines of the linolium floor tile, while glancing at the various refinery that lined the perfectly patterned shelves, each item placed in a delicate solidarity, rows after rows of stacked geometry. He was thinking about celary, and what kind of soup he should make after he had finished grading the papers on the last experiment he perfomed -- enlarging a marshmellow to gigantic proportions in a vaccum generator. As his eyes scanned the 'chicken soup' cans, he caught her out of the corner of his eye, rounding the corner into his lane.
The first things he noticed was her long blonde hair, pulled back into a hairclip. She wore a brown coat, and wore a blue dress, which clung to her sides. Opening her purse, he watched as she deftly rummaged her fingers inside it's hidden contents, pulling out an envelope which held coupons. He found himself staring at the small wedding ring on her left hand

Bricolage
Piece of Gravel.

John  felt the peice of gravel, embedded into the sole of his shoes with every heavy step, as he cimbed up the short flight of stairs to his apartment. He could see it in his minds-eye, a sharp protrusion tearing it's way through the rubber of his chuck taylors, driving it's way up through the layers of glue and cloth, before burrowing it'self into the flat of his foot. This pebble would continue, unabated through flesh and musle, continuing upward into bone and then upwards, continuing till he could imagine it resting on top of his foot. Of course, this was all just an extreme.. The pebble only gave him a momentary sense of distraction as he climbed the steps, his footfalls reverberating in the stairwell.
"I'm going to have get a sharp stick or something to remove it. It's probably jammed up there pretty tightly." He could hear the pebble scrape against the concrete. He wondered if he left a scraping line behind him, morse code - Dash dash dash as he walked the two miles from his job at the printing plant, down on donaldson street.

7:37 pm - Beginning Writer's Workshop: Lesson 4
Third Person Limited
Past
Moderate

The 54 from Aberdane pulled into the bus station, windows wet from snow. They were fogged from the passengers on the inside, giving them a blurred soft appearance.  Martha clutched her purse in her gloved fingers, pulling it tightly to her chest in an attempt to steel her from the cold. As she exhailed into the cold air, she watched the small cloud leave her lips. The doors of the 54 opened and John, her ex, stepped off. He carried a brown wool overcoat and a large battered black suitcase.
"Hello Martha," he said with a slight smile. "It's been a while."
"Hello John." Martha absently fumbled with her purse, she stepped up close to him, wrapping her arms around his frame. She could smell the faint hint of his colongue--Old Spice. With a brief pause, she withdrew. "It has."
John hefted the suitcase, "Thanks for meeting me here." He signed. "How is Sammy handling your Mother's death?"  The bus unloaded, spilling passangers into the small bus terminal.
